In a barren land, people piled rocks together. Sometimes the only point to life seemed to be work, eat, and sleep. People had a few pleasures, some accumulated various "toys,'' and others acquired recognition. But, for the most part, existence was usually just work, eat, and sleep. However, one person, known as the searcher, began to wonder, "There must be more."
Accident?
Once a rock fell out of the sky near the searcher. The searcher picked up the rock and realized that it was warm. He noticed the rock was composed of layers, and yet had a random shape. The searcher asked, "Where did this rock come from?"

The person went on to "explain" that volcanic mud actually turned into a human. As the person spoke, the searcher tried to imagine how one lump of mud became a rock while another lump became a person. His mind was filled with fantasies of explosions, rivers of mud, all kinds of creatures appearing and transforming, while eons flew by. The searcher wondered out loud, "Who saw it all happen?"
The person in the coat looked at the searcher with contempt. He turned, went into a stone building, and slammed the door. The sign over the door read: "Be Adaptable". Just then, a rock went through the roof of the building. The door flew open and out ran that person holding the hand of a monkey wearing a dress.
The searcher thought, "Am I here just by chance?" When another rock fell near the searcher, he was jolted back to reality. He hurried to the nearby beach overlooking the vast sea. He walked into the edge of the water and felt refreshed. As he looked back at a barren and hostile land littered with rocks, he began to feel isolated.
Close by, coming out of a hole in the ground was a large snake. The searcher's natural reaction was self-preservation. He ran further on the beach, but the snake slithered after him. The searcher picked up a rock and threw it at the snake. The snake stopped to dodge the rock. Other people on the island watched a while, but soon returned to piling rocks.
Unity?

However, the searcher was not quite ready to "swallow" that claim just yet. He continued to fight back causing the snake to retreat. Just before diving into the hole, the snake looked back as if to say, "I'll get you sooner or later." Overcoming his fears, the searcher approached the hole, piled stones and dirt, completely covering it.
After pacing back and forth, the searcher looked for large pieces of driftwood on the beach. Finding a piece, the searcher asked himself, "Divine driftwood?" Suddenly, the searcher heard a commotion seaward. A shark knocked the screaming person off the log and swallowed him in one gulp. The searcher dropped the driftwood and walked on.
Notions?

Waving his arms high, the searcher cried out, “Hey, I'm trapped on this island. Can you help me?”
One person yelled back, “Sir, your problem is your imagination. There is no island!"
The searcher was stunned as that person continued, "And besides, if you are stuck in an illusion it's because of some bad actions in your previous life. So, your ignorance has trapped you." A confused expression appeared on the searchers face. One last time, the person yelled, "We must not touch you! But, pray to the multitude of phantoms inhabiting your fantasy. Surely one of them will guide you to the next life.”
Shocked, and mumbling under his breath, "next life." The searcher looked back toward the snake's hole and wondered out loud, "Is this all just a dream?" But, imagining the snake bite him, he trembled, turned, and hurried down the beach.
Cycles?
The searcher noticed a closely packed flotilla of small shallow tubs shaped like water lilies. Patches of lettered cloth held these lily-tubs together. Each lily-tub held one person dressed in a colored robe, and sitting in an unusual lily-pose. These adherents paddled with their hands in unison. It was all aesthetically very pleasing.
Waving an arm, the searcher yelled, “Hey, I’m afraid and confused! How can I escape this dreadful place?”

The person paddled his lily-tub tentatively back to the flotilla. The searcher saw another devotee separate from the main body and float out into the "great void." A wave came crashing over his lily-tub and caused it to capsize. A shark attacked him, but he did seem to accept it all rather "serenely." When the diminished wave reached the flotilla, several lily-tubs were capsized. The sharks had a feeding frenzy.
Nevertheless, the searcher began to fashion a small tub out of driftwood and sticks. In shallow water, he sat in his tub and tried to imitate their lily-pose. The tub weaved and bobbed in the waves. The searcher fumbled around, lost his balance, and plunged into the sea headfirst. Not knowing how to swim, he splashed around in the shallow water. Finally touching the bottom, he stood up and ran to the beach. Disappointed, the searcher sat down, but not in the lily-pose, and watched smoke puff from the volcano. He thought, "I desire... therefore, I am!"
Tradition?

A "noble" looking person came out of the ship's cabin. He was dressed in a robe embroidered with snakes. Shaking his head in disapproval, he said, “I perceive that you have rebelled against your original good traditions and harmony of your ancestors.” The searcher saw a person struggling to carry someone across a shallow sandbar to the stone ship.
That "noble” person pointed, "Carry your ancestors like this person, also return to your traditions, and you will become peaceful and respectable!" Halfway there, the person carrying his ancestor fell into a drop-off in the sea. In stunned silence, the searcher watched as sharks hurried into shore and ate them! The wave also inundated the stone ship so much that the "noble" person and other people on board had to swim around the flooded deck. Confused, the searcher complained, "What tradition... piling rocks?" With that, he turned and trudged down the beach.
Conformity?

A person noticed the searcher on the beach. He said, “We conform. You must conform, too. Swim out here, climb onto the first oar, and imitate us exactly." All the people on the black craft yelled in unison, "We will it!"
Bewildered, the searcher looked at all the sharks swimming around. Then, he saw an old barge float near the black craft. The black craft tried to ram the barge, but missed. However, someone with a torch jumped from the black craft onto the barge. When the barge erupted into flames, the people on the black craft cheered and waved their sticks again! The searcher started backing away from the beach. The person on the black craft yelled, "Where are you going?" With a trembling voice, the searcher said, "Following you and still eaten by sharks doesn't seem to be what I'm looking for." Many people yelled back, "Then you deserve to die!"
As the searcher continued to back up, several people on the black craft lifted their sticks in anger. They soon stopped however and began walking on the four oars. Suddenly, a giant wave washed over the black craft causing many people to fall overboard. At the same time, the wave put the fire out on the barge and caused it separate from the black craft. The searcher quickly rushed away as that wave flooded the beach.
Myth?

Eventually, the searcher saw the same barge that had been on fire approach the shore again. Even though it was damaged, the searcher saw that it was very ancient. It had a rectangular shape, but with a rounded front. It had four oars coming out of one side and six oars on the opposite side. The oars were not used very often. There was a one-piece sail with writing on it attached to a front mast and the rounded side. There were many openings torn into the sail with the flaps hanging down. A person on board said to the searcher, “A long time ago, a man built this barge for our ancestors. That mountain over there made a lot of fire and smoke then." Pointing, the person continued, "That man gave us these ten oars and this sail. He also told of another man called the Rescuer who would come someday." After a pause, the person continued, "The Rescuer was supposed to help us out of our troubles. Some people still look for the Rescuer, but we have waited for ages since he was promised. Most of us don't talk about that anymore. Our tradition is probably just a myth.”
Discouraged, the searcher still asked, "What is written on those flaps?" The reply came, "Some say it's about the Rescuer." Then, the person shrugged his shoulders and sat down under the shade of the sail. The searcher turned and lumbered down the beach.
Frustration

Rescuer

The searcher was dumbfounded as this terrible scene played out! He marveled at such an unusual chain of events: that someone would actually come onto the island to rescue him when he was too discouraged to care anymore. Even more so, the unique man had taken the searcher's place in certain death. And amazingly, the snake, a natural source of fear and death, was now banished, too!
The searcher had another chance at life. But, how should the searcher live his new life? Undoubtedly, the unique man could have guided the searcher. However, the unique man is now gone! The searcher stood motionless with sad wonder and confused doubts.
Renewed
Suddenly, to the searcher's utter amazement, the unique man, glowing with light, rose out of the sea in a waterspout! He was now unrestricted by the material world. Floating in the air, the unique man came and stood beside the searcher. The searcher was overjoyed, and humbly bowed down in thanks to the unique man.

The searcher realized that he truly did believe. These events—the coming, death, renewed life, and companionship of the Rescuer—actually happened a long time ago. The searcher had read this account on the two wings of the ship. Yet, it was as though it was all happening now, both to and for him.
There were others on the ship that experienced these same things. They all knew the unique man as the predicted Rescuer, not only for a few, but also for everyone. Together they helped guide and encourage other "searchers" in the hope of this renewed life.
The words that foretold the Rescuer's coming said that He didn't come from just another land across the sea, but actually came from beyond the clouds. It was foretold that the island will one day actually end with the "feared" cataclysmic eruption of the volcano, and sooner rather than eons away. Since the Rescuer's first coming was predicted, and then happened, there is now a realistic hope that he will return before the end. The writing of the sails also foretell that the Rescuer will take his followers to the safety of a new world beyond the clouds. Since the Rescuer has not returned for such a long time, many claim he never will. However, the Rescuer told his followers to be especially watchful for his return when the sea waves increase, at the time the volcano threatens, and watercraft multiply. "It's looking more like that than ever before," the searcher exclaimed!
Conclusion
Is life no more than just a material existence for gathering temporal pleasures, toys, and recognition? These mundane matters may only mask humanity's real origin and purpose.

Even though people feel they are meant to be more than dwellers on "island" earth, there are many things that threatens their existence. In addition, the ages have been plagued by real evil, both corporate and personal, which seeks to enslave or destroy. Some people ask why doesn't good prevail? Nevertheless, people continue to trudge along in willing ignorance, others in confident self-deception, and some, like the searcher, look for that something more.
There is, however, a series of predictions that actually came to pass. People continue to guess even about these things. There is One who doesn't need to guess. The Rescuer has experienced it all. When the searcher trusted in the Rescuer, he gain the gift of renewed life that is never ending and full of hope.
This renewed life will grow if it is nourished, just like the physical life. The teachings and actions of the Rescuer is the true food needed for belief! The question still echoes throughout the eons: “Do you believe... in Him?”
